《상생 — 존재와 존재 사이》

"상생은 결과가 아니라, 서로를 향해 한 올 한 올 쌓아가는 과정이다."

 

 

존재는 홀로 완성되지 않는다.

 

서로 다른 생명과 기억, 시간과 감정은 보이지 않는 '사이'에서 만나고 스며들며 관계를 이루고, 그 안에서 우리는 비로소 연결된다. 《상생 : 존재와 존재 사이》는 이러한 관계의 본질에 대한 이야기이다.

상생은 단순한 공존을 의미하지 않는다. 그것은 서로가 영향을 주고받으며 함께 변화하고 성장해 가는 과정이다. 어느 날 갑자기 이루어지는 것이 아니라, 한 올 한 올 쌓여가는 축적처럼 관계는 형성되고 존재는 만들어진다. 서로의 삶에 스며들어 흔적을 남기고, 때로는 변화시키며 새로운 가능성을 열어가는 움직임, 그것이 상생이 지향하는 가치이다.

 

나는 그동안 시공간을 넘나드는 의식에 대한 탐구를 이어오며, 실과 여백의 관계를 통해 내면의 사유와 감각을 시각화해 왔다. 이번 전시에서는 그 연장선에서 화면 전체를 균등하게 채우는 All-over Painting 방식을 채택하였다. 화면의 위와 아래, 중심과 주변의 위계를 지우고 모든 존재를 동등하게 바라보고자 했기 때문이다.

가득 채워진 화면은 마치 하나의 꽃다발을 닮아 있다. 각각의 꽃이 저마다의 개성과 아름다움을 간직하면서도 서로 어우러져 하나의 조화를 이루듯, 작품 속 개별 형상들은 독립된 존재이면서 동시에 전체를 구성하는 관계의 일부가 된다.

 

오늘날 불안과 경쟁, 단절이 만연한 현실 속에서 상생은 서로의 존재를 인정하고 존중하며 함께 성장해 가는 삶의 태도이자 가치이다. 상생은 결과가 아니라 서로를 향해 한 올 한 올 쌓아가는 과정이다. 그렇게 쌓인 결들이 하나의 화면을 이루듯, 서로 다른 존재들 또한 관계 속에서 조화를 이루며 더 큰 의미와 아름다움을 만들어 낸다. 이번 전시는 함께 살아가는 존재들의 관계를 다시 바라보고, 그 속에서 피어나는 상생의 가치에 대해 이야기하고자 하였다.

Coexistence — Between Being and Being

 

- Artist Statement

 

“Coexistence is not a result, but a process of building, one thread at a time, toward one another.”

 

No being is complete on its own.

 

 

Different lives, memories, times, and emotions encounter and permeate one another within the invisible space “in between,” forming relationships through which we come to recognize our connection to one another. Coexistence — Between Being and Being explores the nature of such relationships and the interconnectedness of existence.

Coexistence does not simply mean existing alongside one another. It is a process in which beings influence one another, change, and grow together. Relationships are not formed suddenly; rather, they emerge through the gradual accumulation of encounters and traces. In the same way, existence is continually transformed and expanded through relationships. This movement—of permeating one another’s lives, leaving traces, sometimes bringing about change, and opening up new possibilities—is what I understand as the value of coexistence.

Throughout my practice, I have explored consciousness that transcends space and time, visualizing inner thought and sensation through the relationship between thread and empty space. In this exhibition, extending from that exploration, I have adopted an all-over painting approach, filling the entire surface of the canvas with an even rhythm. By doing so, I sought to erase the hierarchy between center and periphery, above and below, and to regard each being as equal.

The densely filled surface evokes the image of a bouquet of flowers. Just as individual flowers retain their own character and beauty while coming together to form a harmonious whole, the individual forms within my paintings exist independently while simultaneously becoming part of the relationships that constitute the whole. Each being is different, yet when these differences come together and coexist, they create a new order and a new sense of beauty.

In a world increasingly marked by anxiety, competition, and disconnection, coexistence is an attitude and a value that acknowledges and respects the existence of others while seeking to grow together. For me, coexistence is not a completed state, but an ongoing process of reaching toward one another.

Just as individual threads accumulate, one by one, to eventually form a single surface, different beings encounter and connect with one another through relationships, creating a world together. Through this exhibition, I seek to contemplate the meaning of the relationships that exist within the space “in between,” and to speak of the harmony and possibilities of coexistence that emerge when different beings come together.
